Lesson description:
Morbid obesity is a major and growing public health problem around the world.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy are two of the more commonly performed bariatric surgical procedures, and both have been shown to provide sustained long-term weight loss and improve weight related comorbidities including type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Despite the well described long-term benefits of bariatric surgery, patients can develop chronic complications.
This module will review some of these more common chronic complications, including strictures, marginal ulcers, and chronic fistulas. The clinical presentation and diagnosis of these complications will be discussed, as well as their endoscopic and surgical management options.
