Flexible endoscopy is considered a critical part of training in general and digestive surgery in many parts of the world, in others it is less so. We discuss methods and curricula for the progressive introduction of flexible endoscopy into the practices and clinics of digestive surgeons. Also discussed are training and competency metrics for newcomers and established practitioners to ensure high quality patient care.
