Colonoscopy is accepted as the gold standard screening and surveillance method for colon cancer. Lower GI endoscopy has evolved in both diagnostic and therapeutic indications, but basic colonoscopy is still the fundamental necessary skill. Completing a high quality colonoscopy requires technical skill, cognitive skill and sufficient experience. In this module, we discuss how to successfully and skillfully perform diagnostic colonoscopy and the indications, basic techniques, complications, screening and surveillance.
